Spring is Around the Corner

How are you? Have you been enjoying this unseasonably warm weather? Certainly a change from February! It was nice this past weekend as I was up at the cottage and skiing in the Ski Challenge Championships at Giant’s Ridge. It was a great day of skiing and a mediocre day of racing! But I’m ok with that. It was fun to get out and race for the final time this season. The snow was good and the sun was bright! We’re currently scurrying about to get ready for our photo shoot for the 21/22 Brightwater Look Book. We will be shooting out at Camp Tanadoona tomorrow, and I can't wait. It’s always an amazing day. A group of characters—and friends—getting together to don samples from next winter's clothing offerings, eat amazing foods, and sip delicious libations. It’s a...

Buy Local or Bye Local

How are you? If you’re like me, you don’t mind the chilly morning’s walk to get a coffee, and the check on the outside temperature. It’s invigorating to see the -15°F and colder temps. At least I think so! I’ve been checking on the house up north, too. On February 11th at 7:55AM, it was -33°F. THAT is cold! Glad the furnace is good, and the neighbors check on it regularly. I feel fortunate that it was warmer a week before when we were up there. We went up Saturday the 30th so that I could get an early start on Sunday morning, as I volunteered to help with the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. It is a different type of race than The Klondike Dog Derby. There...

Reflections on 2020

Hi there, I’m sitting at the kitchen table up at the cottage, looking out at frozen Ely Lake. I love the way the texture of the wind-blown snow on the lake changes, as the morning light appears. It’s a very serene view. Cold, but serene. The crackling of the fire in the living room, so warm and cozy, fends off the cold. I’m so blessed. In the last days of 2020, it’s been easy to say that 2020 sucked, and let's get on with 2021! Yet there’s a lot to be grateful for from 2020. I’m grateful for all of you and your support of Brightwater. From the beginning of the COVID19 shutdown, you have repeatedly shown me how much you care for...

Bill's 2020 Shop Gift Guide

I'm hoping you're having a great day! Mine just got better as my POS system (that's technical jargon for Point of Sale, although sometimes I think it also stands for something else!) just got back online. At times I do yearn for the days of an old cash register and the credit card machine that you had to manually imprint! I guess that makes me old! Here at Brightwater, we’re ready for the the Holiday Season! I decorated the windows this past week, and filled the shop with the fresh greens I collected up north. If you get a chance, swing by and take a look. On one side of the front windows there is a red push-cutter that was made for my Grandmother Svea,...

We have a lot to be grateful for...

Hi All!   It’s a quiet Monday at Brightwater. It’s the start of the Thanksgiving Week. Folks are beginning to get ready for their Thanksgiving meal. Everybody’s wondering how this holiday will work given Covid19. It’s a frustrating time, in a frustrating year. We probably aren’t going to able to see all those who we want to (like for me, my kids) yet, I still have a lot to be grateful for. We all are healthy. We’ve got solid roofs over our head, hot running water, and warm clothes. In the grand scheme, that’s pretty great!I’ve had a good last month at Brightwater. Thank you all! It’s been nice to all of you who’ve stopped by to take a look at the...
