New York + Ely Lake

How are you? How’d it get to be October already? I want it to feel more like fall than it seems to be at the moment. I’m waiting for that morning when I can reach for the favorite sweater, but I’m afraid I’m still reaching for that favorite t-shirt. But, it not all bad. We snuck up to the Cottage last Sunday night, and had two glorious days. Warm and sunny and the colors were just wonderful. Even the evenings were warm and calm. Perfect for late night pontoon boat cruises. The stars were so amazing! That was a short but sweet getaway after the week before, which was quite hectic. It was Art and Apples on the Lake the 18th and...

Perusing for Fall/Winter 2021

Hi All,How are you? I’m hoping you're doing well and are happy. I’m happy to see the recent rains, and am enjoying at least a few days of cooler temps. It’s hard to believe it’s the middle of August!  I’ve also been enjoying this August because I’ve been able to return (masked-up) to markets! I spent the first part of this week in Chicago, at the Collective. The Collective is a men’s market held at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. (It’s a magnificent building in its own right — check it out here.) It was so good to reconnect with rep friends and fellow retailers. Just to be able to touch fabrics and see styles in person was so terrific! This market was for...

Visitors + Crazy Days Clearance Tent Sale

Hi All,How are you? Having a good summer? I sure hope so. Mine’s been pretty terrific. Thanks for all your support at Brightwater. It’s been a pretty darn good spring/summer season! Thank you.  I have had a chance to get up the the cottage a few times and spend time with my sister Kate. She’s here for the month of July. I hope to get up there again soon! We’ll see if I can make that happen.Right now the focus is on getting all of my ducks in a row for Brightwater's annual Crazy Days Clearance Tent Sale. It begins Thursday, July 22, and runs through Sunday the 25th. It’s always such a fun event and one that most of my...

Father's Day

Hi there,I’m sitting at the kitchen table at the house on the point, up north. It looks out to the east. The morning sun has filled the lake with diamonds. So beautiful. So relaxing. We came up Saturday evening after I closed up the shop. We got here in time to watch the sun set from the dock. Again, so beautiful. It’s 66F with a light breeze, and the lake is 72F — a nice reprieve from the heat of the Cities!Sitting here allows me to reminisce about this place when it was my Grandparents' summer home. They would spend winters at the house in Eveleth. Once spring came, they would move out to the lake for the summer. I would boat over from...

New Amundsen Sports from Norway & Bellerose from Belgium

It’s only been a week since my last note, but I wanted to touch base before I head out to Palm Springs for week on Saturday! I’m going to do my best to relax and escape into a few books and hikes. There may be a cigar and a touch of bourbon, too!I also wanted to make mention that I’m in need of some help at Brightwater. Sadly, Molly is headed back to Park City, her home, and I need to find someone to fill her shoes — tough as that will be! I’m needing someone who’s technologically savvy enough to learn and master the POS/Inventory Network, the Shopify website, and feels comfortable on the retail floor. There’s an opportunity to assist with the...
