Spring has sprung at Brightwater!

Chicago Collective for Spring/Summer 2023

I’m trying to figure out how it got to be darn near the middle of August, and how I’m going to cram in the rest of my summer bucket list! Maybe the smart thing to do is forget the list, and just enjoy! The cooler nights make for better sleeping and the rain has been good for my tomatoes!

We got back late Tuesday from the first of the summer 2023 markets. This time it was the Chicago Collective. I think it’s the best Men’s Market in the country. We flew in Saturday evening and had appointments hourly on Sunday, Monday and part of Tuesday. It’s always fun to see what’s new for Spring/Summer ’23, as well as meet up with old friends — both reps and fellow shopkeepers. From Alan Paine and Barbour to Holebrook and Relwen, it’s a lot to take in. But that’s the fun too. Now the hard part comes in writing the orders, and coordinating the SS23 Brightwater offering! I do love it!

I would be be telling a fib if I said it was all work! We had some terrific meals and strolls through Chicago. We enjoyed cocktails and appetizers at the Gilt Bar on Kinzie St., just across from the Merchandise Mart. We went out to the Fulton Market, and had a drink at the Hoxton Hotel, then dined at The Publican just around the corner. Oysters, charcuterie, and terrific salads there! The Smith on N. Clark was the favorite spot for breakfast.

Back in the shop Wednesday meant the start of the transition to Fall/Winter merchandise. It’s the beginning of the season that, I feel, Minnesotans love the most. New offerings from Lilla P, Freenote Cloth, and chunky sweaters from Bare Knitwear have come in. I’m not ready to ditch my shorts and short-sleeves, yet this morning had a hint of the fall season vibe…

I've got to get back to my order writing. I hope you have an amazing weekend! Do something fun for yourself. If you’re out and about, stop by Brightwater!

Please remember to be kind, be sincere, and take care of each other.

Lots of love,
- Bill
