Fathers

Hi All!

How are you. I know I wrote to you last week, but I wanted to do a quick shoutout to all the fathers out there in celebration of Father’s Day this Sunday, June 19th.

We all have fathers. Many of us are fathers. Many are raising fathers-to-be. It’s an honor to be a father to my girls Han and Lu. Being a father is full of wonderment as they arrive, joy, consternation and hard work as you raise them, proud moments as the achieve their successes, and at times you find yourself consoling and helping them back to their feet after a setback. I'm so proud of my girls as they have launched themselves into their own worlds. I’m so grateful for all those opportunities!

We learn from our fathers, too. They offer us their expertise and guidance. Sometimes it's appreciated, sometimes not! I was fortunate enough to have my dad, John, live with me for the last 7 years of his life. It was an incredible opportunity to truly get to know him, to ask questions, to learn, and to love him — most of the time!

We were just up at the Cottage for a couple days and I had to level the old dock as the ice and the high water had removed my shims from last summer. Sitting with Dad looking at the dock on one of the last trips up together, he told me that he and Grampa built that dock in 1940. The timbers used were 30’ trestles from an old wooden bridge. “That dock has been my benchmark for what thirty feet looks like ever since,” he told me. Now it’s my benchmark too. I do miss him.

We came back down last night to get Brightwater primed and prettied for all of you Father’s Day shoppers. There is another new shipment of Amundsen Sports from Norway that has just arrived. There's also new Faherty for men and women. There are new bright Madras shirts from Gitman Vintage, my favorite shorts from Relwen, and a wonderful collection of Alan Paine Linen and polos too. I don’t believe there is anything better for the hot weather that a linen shirt. As for the women’s side, there are a number of new summer dresses. Again, perfect for the hot weather! Please swing by soon for the best selection.

Here’s to all the fathers — past, present and future — loving, respecting and nurturing!

As always, thank’s for reading this, and please be kind, be nice, and be caring.

Lots of love to all of you.
