Spring has sprung at Brightwater!

Klondike Recap + Markets in Chicago

How are you? I hope all is good in your world! It’s been a busy few weeks for me. As I hope all of you know, this past weekend was the Klondike Dog Derby here is Excelsior. It was a great event, if I must say so myself! It started off Friday with the vet checks, and our Meet-the-Mushers and Hug-a-Husky events. This was family-oriented with live programs, music, hot cocoa, a photo booth, ice carving and more! Saturday was the main event, the sled dog race itself. We had 35 teams from as far away as Alaska, and all across Canada and the US! It was so great to see these super athletes, the sled dogs, so excited to run! The winner, Dave Hochman, is from St. Malo, Manitoba. This was his 3rd Klondike win! It was so amazing to see all who came to Excelsior to partake in the race weekend events. We’re guessing over 40,000 people watched the race live! Everybody seemed to be having a great time, too. As resident of the Klondike, that makes me so happy and proud of all those who sponsored, volunteered and came to spectate!

If that wasn’t enough excitement for a weekend, Deb and I flew to Chicago on Sunday for the Men's edition of the Collective Market. We were there to buy for next fall and winter. From stalwarts to new possibilities, we had appointments on the hour both Monday and Tuesday. Lots to see and cram into two days!

We did have a little fun too. We met friends for drinks and dinner at the Gilt Bar on Kinzie Street. We enjoyed tacos at Rick Bayliss’s XOCO, (pronounced: Sho-Co) on N. Clark, and enjoyed wine with some prosciutto and fresh mozzarella at Eataly, an amazing Italian market and restaurant on east Ohio.

While buying for next fall and winter, I did get invoices for the first of the Spring 2023 shipments. Very soon I’ll begin the winter-to-spring metamorphosis in the shop! That means more discounts on winter goods as they’ve got to go to make way for spring!

I hope you’ll swing by and say hi. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Klondike, and have you take a little perusal of our expanding collection of sale items!

I’ll be around today and Saturday, and will head to the cottage for a quick get-a-way as my sis Kate is here from the UK. It’s always a treat to have her here!

With this warmer weather I hope you all get out and enjoy the sunshine! I’m looking forward to that!

Have a great weekend. I hope you can relax and enjoy. Please be kind, respectful, and share some time with friends.

As always, lots of love!

- Bill
