Shopkeeper's Journal

I'm writing this on a cold, dark morning. Funny how Mother Nature has switched the months up on us. This morning feels more like December, or even January, than October. I’m grateful to be snug and warm enjoying my coffee at home and thinking of the shop. Thank you all for your support this month. Brightwater’s having a great month, and it's because of all of your support! It’s been great to see so many of you stopping by.

I’m excited about all of the new merchandise arriving almost daily at Brightwater. In the last week we have received new shipments from some of my favorites: Hestra GlovesRelwenAmundsen, and Dovetail

Hestra_Gloves
Hestra
is a Swedish Glove maker. A 4th generation family business that began making gloves for lumberjacks in Sweden in 1936. I really don't think there is a better-made glove on the market. I started selling them when I had the outdoor shop in Ashland, WI. They were the only gloves that would last on the hands of my girls when they were ski racing! While I focus on Hestra's Outdoor Lifestyle gloves now, I’m still impressed with their quality and workmanship.

Amundsen_Sports

Shifting one country over to Norway, Amundsen Sports is really a stand-out brand this season. They make some very, very cool pieces. I’m especially impressed with their Harvester Overshirt, which just arrived with several other Amundsen pieces. It’s made with a water-resistant stretch cotton corduroy from Cosserat Company, of France. Lined with wool fleece from Pontetorto of Italy. Warm and very good looking.

I've mentioned Dovetail in my notes before, and I'm excited to say a new shipment has hit the shop. This women-founded company produces quality staples for women. Think durable and stylish pants and overalls, button-downs, and more. These pieces will take you from the cabin, to the trail, to the coffee shop!

You can take a peek at these and a great selection of other Brightwater offerings in our online shop, but you really should swing by the shop. Besides the ability to see our new arrivals and many other great goods, I’m here and ready to talk about why each piece is part of the Brightwater fall collection!

I’d also like to encourage you to spend a little time shopping in Excelsior. We’ve got one of the greatest collections of small shops in a four block area, certainly in the Twin Cities (but I'd venue to guess in the Midwest!). Each run by folks that are experts in their field, and who care deeply about making it safe and easy to shop locally. I’m grateful to be on Water Street, in Excelsior. Besides, the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber has put together a fun Halloweek in Excelsior! Lots of activities that reflect our desire to enjoy Halloween, while respecting the guidelines of COVID19.

I’ll be heading up north next week to begin cutting greens for the shop for the Holidays. I enjoy that time out in the woods. Going to the same places that my dad took me, as a kid, to find specific types of pines that combine to make a beautiful collection of greens. It’s a time for me to reflect on this being the 10th Holiday season for Brightwater. I’m glad to be here. Thanks, all!

Be safe out there. Be kind. And please get out there and vote!

My best,
- Bill
